Oboist Kristin Weber grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and began studying piano at age eight. She studied violin, clarinet, and flute before falling in love with the oboe at age 11. Weber is currently the principal oboe of the Wichita Symphony Orhcestra and also holds oboe & English horn positions in the Tulsa Symphony, the Tulsa Opera, the Boulder Philharmonic, and the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas.
Summer engagements include performing the entire 2019 summer season with the Colorado Symphony as the associate principal oboe. As the grand prize winner of the Ekstrand Competition in 2017, Weber performed as a soloist in Recital at Carnegie Hall on November 5th 2018. Weber has performed in the Grand Tetons Music Festival in the summer of 2017 under the baton of Donald Runnicles and Vasily Patrenko. She also performed in the Music in the Mountains festival in Durango, CO in the summer of 2016 under the baton of Guillermo Figueroa and Carl Topilow. Recent recording work includes playing oboe on the documentary "Love Bugs" by Allison Otto, music written by Mark Crawford. In the Spring of 2018, Weber played principal oboe on the most recent Indigo Girls Album that is now available on itunes and Spotify. For the past two summers (2017 & 2018) she has been a member of Colorado Mahlerfest under the artistic direction of Kenneth Woods. Previous summer engagements have included the Orford Musique Festival in Quebec, where she studied with Theodore Baskin and Sarah Jeffrey, the Music in the Mountains Conservatory in Durango, CO where she studied with Erin Hannigan, the Rocky Ridge Music festival in Estes Park, CO where she studied with Peter Cooper and Jason Lichtenwalter, and the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival where she studied with Jelena Dirks. She has also been a performer in the Hidden Valley Masterclasses with Elaine Douvas in 2016 and the Carolyn Hove Masterclasses in Columbus, GA in 2014 & 2015. Weber has performed in masterclasses for the following artists: Richard Killmer, Erin Hannigan, Elaine Douvas, Martin Schuring, Carolyn Hove, Eugene Isotov, Nancy Ambrose King, Michael Henoch, Frank Rosenwein, Russ deLuna, Celeste Johnson, The Imani Winds, Chip Hamman, Euridice Alvarez, Allison Robuck, Matt Albert, and Leone Buyse. In recent years Weber has been a substitute with the Colorado Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, the Boulder Opera, the Cheyenne Symphony, the Fort Collins Symphony, Spire Chamber Ensemble (KC), and the Danville Symphony Orchesta (IN). Weber recently completed her Doctorate of Music Performance and Pedagogy where she studied with Peter Cooper and Jason Lichtenwalter at the University of Colorado. She also served as the oboe studio teaching assistant. She completed her Master of Music degree at the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance (UMKC) with Barbara Bishop. She also studied with Kristina Fulton while living in Kansas City. Weber completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Illinois where she studied with John Dee.
